Detailed Breakdown of a Collective Process
There are several ways to take part in a Collective:
-As a member joining someone’s early design and contributing ideas
-As a member joining an established/closed design via the website Shop section
-As a leader of your own design
Join a Collective as a MEMBER:
Short description:
-You can find Collectives in the design phase in the NM Insiders BST & Chat Group.
-Collectives with finalized details can be found on the Shop section of NM Website
Detailed description:
1. You can express your interest on the design post made by the potential group leader in our BST group. It's best to comment with your intentions rather than simply say ‘interested’. If you are truly committed, say “I’m in,” or, if you need more time, say you’re watching to see where the design heads (assuming it's not a fixed design) or that you are considering joining but need more time, etc. This lets the leader know if they can count on you to join, or if you’re simply tagging along.
2. Committing to a collective is something that should be taken seriously. Please do not join if you have any doubts about the design/bag style, etc. Remember, the group leader needs 4 committed members to move to a chat and run the collective. If you back out for any reason, they have to start the process over or potentially lose the group discount earned through your participation.
3. Once a chat is formed, please join as soon as possible. Failure to do so will delay the finalization of the design. The group leader and other members are counting on you to be an active participant.
4. If polls are posted, please vote asap. Remember that most groups go with the group majority on the polls. There is a give-and-take needed to design a bag that takes everyone's requests into account, so please be kind in your interaction.
5. Do not ask for fixed items to be changed. The group leader will state whether they are open to adjustments beyond those they have indicated as ‘negotiable’ in the design. If it says fixed, please respect their wishes.
6. Once the design is finalized, the group will vote on who is 100% committed to the collective. Please vote honestly, as the names in the poll will be those added to the collective's order form. If you need extra time to think it over, that is okay! You can always join in once the collective has been listed on the North Moor website, up till the 20th of the month at 11:59 PM PST. However, once your name is placed on the order form, you are officially registered for the collective.
7. Initial deposits for the founding members (those on the order form) will be invoiced via email. It is your responsibility to pay your invoice within 24 hours of it being sent. The group will be notified when all invoices have been emailed. Please check your spam folder if you do not see your invoice.
8. Nothing is left to do but wait for the allotted time to see the beautiful bags you helped design! Final invoices are sent out once the bag is completed. The group will be notified in the group chat when the bags are ready to view on the North Moor FB page. Congratulations!
How to LEAD your own Collective:
Short description:
-Post a design in the NM Insiders BST & Chat Group -Once you have a total of 4 members message Jess R (admin). She will set up a design chat -Once your design is final, message Jess R again and she will give you the final order form, invoice for deposits, and place you in the incubator and your design will appear on the website in the shop section for more members to join.
-Designs close on a specific date and then they are in production, all you have to do is wait!
Detailed Description:
1. Start by making a design-interest post (a little blurb and maybe some screenshots of the style and leather/liner you'd like to propose) in the NM BST & Chat group on FB. (You can also use the design template at the bottom of this document so no details are missed) If you need help creating a collage, please ask by messaging Jess R, the Admin! Be as specific as possible in your design choices, as this helps the group run smoothly and more efficiently. *Please also note if your design is “Fixed” (you’re not open to design suggestions) or “Negotiable” (suggestions welcome).
2. Once you have made your interest post and gathered at least 4 members (including yourself) who are 100% on board and committed to your design, please PM or tag Jess R. on the post, & you will be set up with a chat for your group. We will leave the chat link on your interest post and the Design in Progress tab of the Incubator, as well as in our North Moor Custom Collectives FB Group to gain more members.
3. Once your chat is open, you'll see the group collage that will accompany you throughout the process, along with the collective incubator link & collective policies for easy access whenever needed. First, introduce your design to the group; this helps especially new members who join later, allowing them to see the bag details. Then, feel free to create polls for any undecided design details. Polls are an effective way to gather the group's opinions on items that require agreement. Tag your members in your design post and chat if needed, since notifications might not always be seen, and we want to ensure everyone has a chance to vote.
4. Once your details are finalized, conduct a final poll to confirm who is fully committed to the design. This also helps you easily compile your member list, which you'll need for the final order form.
5. Maintain open communication with your group members and encourage them to do the same. Since life can be unpredictable, consistent communication is essential! Regularly check in with the group, serve as an engaged leader, and address any questions they might have. You must remain ACTIVE when both leading and joining a collective to help the process run smoothly.
6. After finalizing your design, send Jess R. a PM to request your collective's placement on the Incubator. You'll receive a final order form to fill out all your bag details. Within 48 hours, you and the founding members of your group will be invoiced for your deposits. Invoices must be paid within 24 hours. Once ALL deposits are in, your group will be added to the incubator and the North Moor website to help gather more members. Please keep in mind: Groups cannot move to the incubator until ALL founding members have paid.
It's important to note that NO changes can be made to your design OR founding members once you have submitted your final order form. Please make sure your members understand that by paying the deposit, they are committing to participation. Backing out of a collective once an order form has been submitted is not allowed.
7. At this point, there is no further work required on your part. We will automatically close your collective on the 20th of the month at 11:59 PM PST, and North Moor will begin gathering materials for production. All progress/updates can be tracked via the “in production” tab on the incubator.
Important information -
The fabric for your group will be ordered by North Moor. The group leader will be asked to leave your fabric link on the order form.
Founding members will have their strap selections added to the order form by the group leader. Any NEW Members that join via the website will select their strap option from the drop-down menu within the listing prior to checkout.
Your collective will remain open to new members (via FB and the North Moor Website) until the 20th of each month when collectives close.
Bag completion is approximately 6-8 weeks from the date the collective closed; however, please note this is subject to change. During summer breaks, we automatically extend this to 8-12 weeks.
Deposits are non-refundable UNLESS a significant materials or scheduling change occurs on the part of North Moor.
By participating in a collective, you understand and agree to North Moor’s Policies.
