Our Story
I grew up on Nantucket Island and I guess the rugged landscape never left my soul. The bags I design are meant to last, to be elegant and functional. They have clean lines, are made with high quality materials and superior design are the goal.
Starting Somewhere.
Design comes from some inner theme. It lives inside of you until you find a way to make it a reality. I’ve been thinking about these designs for ages. They were born from each bag I saw and loved but knew I would have changed just this, and this, and this to make it perfect. These bags are the result of decades of quiet rumination on form, style and function.
In 2018 I bought my first leather sewing machine and set it up in my garage-turned-studio, where it sat for several weeks while I worked up the courage to learn. She was fast and very powerful and the thought of possibly inadvertently attaching myself to my project was terrifying. But over time, with much trial and error, I began to get to know the timing of the needle, the force of the motor, how the leather bends, folds, fights and relents. I was smitten. I haven’t looked back since.

I would like to introduce you all to the gentleman behind the production of your beautiful designs, Mr. Sierra. His workshop is on the top floor of a gorgeous 1920's beaux arts building in downtown LA. While he can add extra hands when he is overloaded, he personally sews 99.9% of the bags that North Moor sends to him. He also sews bags for other brands and leather clothing.
It is VERY uncommon for designers to ask production sewing people to vary the design with every run. Pockets, main opening type, zipper direction etc are usually set per style and vary only by leather color. Initially he thought I was a little crazy for having such a business model (and reminded me of this often), but over time he has begun to find it exciting and challenging. I've shown up to his studio when he had his own design ideas to show me as well
He is very talented, and patient. I feel so fortunate to have him sewing North Moor bags.
